Jesson and Birkett Ruskin Pottery Antique Arts and Crafts Silvered Metal Jardiniere/Planter.

A stunning, beautiful and rare example of Arts and Crafts design by Jesson and Birkett executed by Frank Salthouse.

The jardiniere or planter is made from silvered metal, adorned with six large Ruskin Pottery cabochons (three to each main face) in beautiful mottled blue and green glazes mounted and raised within pierced and stylised knotwork 'cages'.

To each corner the design is further complemented with stylised whiplash handles of pierced strapwork with 'spade' shaped feet rivetted to the main body typical of the work of Jesson and Birkett.

The design and the contrast of the blue green Ruskin roundels against the silver colour background is most striking.

Jesson, Birkett & Co. Ltd was located in the Highgate area of Birmingham where AE Jones from the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft utilised the staff, designs and processes from the workshops for his own ventures. Jesson, Birkett & Co Ltd later merged with A.E. Jones Ltd around 1905.

Size: 43cm length x 11cm height x 19cm width.

Circa: 1905.
