GUY SYDENHAM (1916 - 2005); POOLE POTTERY
Important ’Atlantis' knight's helmet table lamp, very finely & heavily potted, exhibiting a rare deep turquoise glaze with brown highlights, Poole, England, c. 1970; the face inside believed to be a self-portrait in thickly potted overlaid clay, the exterior deeply carved with geometric aztec decoration representing a Knight's chainmail; one of the best we have seen & is almost certainly a one-off piece, highly likely to have been sold originally at Heal’s in Tottenham Court Road, London; With the death of Guy Sydenham in 2005 & the closure of the original Poole Pottery where Guy Sydenham worked, it is a truly functional, highly commercial & collectable investment piece. 29cm high.
