ALBERT EDWARD JONES (1878 - 1954); BIRMINGHAM GUILD OF HANDICRAFT (BGH)
A strikingly beautiful & rare planished copper pot pourri, Birmingham, England, c. 1902; A highly skilled and technically accomplished design, the pierced cover shows stylised galleons which allows scent out for pot pourri; The verse ‘Gather ye rosebuds while ye may’ is embossed on the main body perimeter which has been finely riveted together on a wave form seam; It is highly likely that A. E. Jones produced this beautiful piece whilst he was a guildsman at Arthur Stansfield Dixon’s Birmingham Guild of Handicraft in around 1900; The quality of the workmanship is of an extremely high calibre and displays a deep rich mellow chocolate patina indicating a piece of outstanding craftsmanship typical of BGH before A. E. Jones set up his own company, The Guild of Handicrafts, in 1902; 22.5cm high. Provenance: Private Collection UK
