Arts and Crafts WAS Benson Brass Table Lamp with Powell Vaseline Glass shade.

 

A superb and rare Arts and Crafts brass rise and fall desk light or table lamp by WAS Benson complete with its matching James Powell candy stripe vaseline glass shade and WAS Benson switch.

 

Stylishly and cleverly designed with adjustable arm with its integral 'pill box' WAS Benson toggle switch, the direction of the lamp shade can be angled to suit by moving it up & down and/or rotated around the main stem of the lamp base using the adjustable locking nut, the shade can also be angled to suit with locking nuts.

 

The lamp stands on a sturdy base and is completed with its matching superb striped vaseline glass shade by James Powell of particular beautiful form and strong colour.

 

The lamp is in superb condition retaining all of its original parts including the internal switch mechanism which is in full working order.

 

Marks: Signed Benson, with patented WAS Benson Switch.

 

Reference: Ian Hammertons WAS Benson Arts and Crafts Luminary and Pioneer of Modern Design page 92 plates 68 and 69, the lamp was shown at the Arts and Crafts exhibition 1903.
