Arts and Crafts Jesson & Birkett large size casket designed by Annie Grisdale Stubbs c1905.
 
Constructed from planished copper with rivets, the lid is surmounted with a pokerwork tablet depicting a lady adorning herself in a looking glass framed with stylised pierced trellis work.
 
A rare, beautiful and useful casket  in excellent condition retaining its original fitted green silk lined interior, the hinges operate perfectly, a lock is present with no key.
 
Jesson, Birkett & Co. Ltd was located in the Highgate area of Birmingham where AE Jones from the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft utilised the staff, designs and processes from the workshops for his own ventures.  Jesson, Birkett & Co Ltd later merged with A.E. Jones Ltd around 1905.
